American Horror Story

I am so conflicted I don’t where to begin.  One part of me wants to just eat this poster up it’s so sexy and another part of me wants to run screaming from the room.  American Horror Story has had me all excited for weeks and now the time is nigh. You know somethings going to be good when the commercials scare the bejesus out of you.

Created by the geniuses of Glee (really?) and Nip/Tuck (definitely!) -  Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk -it  is what some are calling “an overwrought mess”  but others are saying it has a Twin Peaks feel and that can’t be all bad. And after watching it on Wednesday I have to kind of agree with both views.  Some 33 million folks watched and I bet they all felt the same to some degree, we shall see how it progresses.

The casting is off the hook though with television veterans Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton  as estranged (and I must add somewhat clueless) husband and wife who bring their own brand of inner demons into their home.

The one thing that most critics say about this new show is that it is genuinely scary with lots of jumps and frights and I have to agree so don’t sit too close to the television  and keep the popcorn out of your lap.

I love Glee and could take or leave Nip/Tuck but they truly had me at hello when they cast the powerhouse Oscar winning actress Jessica Lang in the role of nosy neighbor Constance.  Come on!  Every horror story has a nosy neighbor, most are killed by act two.  How wonderful that we get to see one live and tell the tale.

Jane Lynch

I take off my hat, well I would if I were actually wearing one, to Jane Lynch, a.k.a. Sue Sylvester of Glee fame for entertaining us as the perfect host of tonight’s 63rd annual Emmy Awards.  I haven’t enjoyed an awards show that much in years.  Possibly decades.

The actress, singer, comedienne started her film career in the 1980′s (can you believe?) but she didn’t really show up on my radar until she played the butchy lesbian character in Best in Show.  For me that was her break out role and she has been wooing me with her incredible talent and humor ever since.

Jane’s personal style can be a little bit all over the map but she  definitely falls in the category of Andro style Dandi.  She is a masculine beauty who is not afraid to sport a gown and make-up.  Sometimes her style mimic’s what her character Sue Sylvester might wear, I sometimes think her stylist doesn’t quite know what to do with a Dandi that isn’t  boxed into wearing suits all of the time.

She loves to wear long coats and long dresses which work well on her statuesque body.  She goes for the more feminine shoe which slims out her lines and she sticks with fairly muted colors except when presenting on stage.

Jane doesn’t seem to wear any particular designer though designer David Meister did her first gown of the evening for the Emmy’s.

Jane, in my opinion is a great Dandi of style.  I think that she is classy and funny and that her style is ever evolving.  I love a lot of her looks and the fabrics that she wears with ease.  Even in tonight’s gowns as well as the jacket seen here she is clearly not afraid of a little sparkle.

I bet, as she becomes more and more of a presence in Hollywood the voice of her style will grow as she becomes one of our first 21st century Dandi style icons.

You were great tonight Jane.  My favorite joke being the one where you said that many people asked you why you were a lesbian.  Very funny!
