Daks

Ah, the Brits.  Some of my favorite dapper Dandy’s in all the land.  They just really know how to pull it all together in such a refined and often very colorful way.

Daks Greys

Okay true, this look is not that colorful but gosh darn if it isn’t still wonderful.  And who is this designer I am referring to?  Daks, of London.

Burberry-esk

Very low key, very elegant.  This collection was inspired by formalwear (if you couldn’t tell)…

Browns

It really modernizes the look and makes it approachable for everyday.

Orange

Gotta love all of the top hats.  I do say that the idea of a single pop of color used with the top hat and (maybe) gloves ( if wearing a black tux on your wedding day) can be a very memorable and signature approach to making it your day as well.

Leathers

Now I know spring is approaching so the last thing anyone is thinking about is going out to buy leather.  But the key word here is spring.  And in many climates a sweet new lightweight leather jacket or pair of pants might just be the ticket.  Certainly this collection is for F/W 2013 but I say take your inspirations from everywhere.

Mustard

I love everything about this look.  Chic, minimal and striking.  Done!

White and Grey

Talk about bringing the formal into the everyday.  I think this does it beautifuly.  Those stylsh Brits do it again!

Now We’re Talking

Cy Choi

“Oh the weather outside is frightful. But the fire is so delightful…” finally, it’s getting cold outside!

And with that come layers (yay!)…

Lots and lots of layers.

Scarves, jackets, vests, sweaters, t-shirts, undershirts, thermals (in all different colors), coats, slickers, hats, caps, boots, gloves, (mittens?!), muffs…I could go on for days…

Dandi’s this is the time of the year to have fun with your clothes and pronounce your style. And let’s be honest sometimes that’s just hard to do when you are stuck wearing shorts and t-shirts.

Bastian

Just because it’s dreary outside doesn’t mean you have to work at getting your wardrobe to match. Don’t be afraid of color.

Do go outside of your comfort zone this season, even if it’s with something small like a scarf.  Always, always challenge yourself from season to season.

Timberland – Mark McNairy

Remember to style your look from head-to-toe and as the good ole song says”..let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!”

The London Olympics 2012

I just clicked on the Opening Ceremony page of the 2012 Olympics|London and we now have 3 hours and 19 minutes to go before all we hear (like it’s not happening already) for the next two weeks will be about the Olympics.

I was a much bigger fan when I was younger.  I loved both the summer and the winter Olympics.  Now I am a bit meh about the whole thing (I hate to admit) though the opening ceremonies are hard to resist.  They are very much equal to a mix of  high concept runway show and high octane Cirque du Soleil (with slow parts in between).

There’s been a lot more fashion talk than usual about the designers for the Olympics, Stella McCartney’s  participation definitely helped.  Even Ab Fab came back from the dead to participate (I love those women!)

I watched the Olympic episode last night and the funniest bit were the ones with and about Stella.

Of course  Ralph Lauren is the Proud Outfitter of Team USA (why is the girl in the back and why is there only one!?!)

And if you are itching for some Olympic gear of your own it is everywhere, but I really liked what Nautica came up with for a Dandi sports look.

Goorin Brothers

I recently went on a little shopping trip with my sweetie and ran across this wonderful find in the heart of South Congress in Austin (she actually saw it first!)

This Dandi group of Goorin Brothers call themselves the Bold Hatmakers and have been making them since 1895.

The original store is in San Francisco and the one here in Austin is working up to it’s one month anniversary so if you’re a fashionista and haven’t heard of it yet don’t feel bad.

The store has a melt in your mouth assortment of designs.

Something for everyone, men and women alike.

If you don’t have a hat (and I’m not talking about a baseball cap) you can’t really call yourself a Dandi so if you are ever in a town where there is a  Goorin Brothers (and they have them all over the US and Canada) check them out.  They have a wonderful group of well trained staff that will measure your head and get one that will fit your face and your style perfectly. If you’re not, that’s okay,  check out their website at goorin.com.

Spring Shopping – J Crew

I love seeing what all of the stores have coming in for spring to lift my spirits out of the winter blah’s.  Though I have to admit here in ATX there hasn’t really been a winter, mostly a lot of rain and that is always fun to bring out the colorful Galoshes and rain slickers.

I do think J Crew has a great and basic offering of Dandi clothes and the fit is pretty universal.  They offer the higher ends of regular sizes and I can fit in most everything they make that is in my size, now whether or not it looks the way I want it to is another story, but that is the joy of shopping and trying on things until you find the perfect fit. And that goes for every single human being on the earth, we are not unique in this!

“Stripes and Plaids…oh my!”

As you can see prints are back for this season in reds, blues, greens…all of the basic colorways.

Same with ties.  J Crew sticks with the more conservative designs but this gives you an idea of width trends.  If you’ve got anything wider think about giving it away or putting it to the back of your closet, you won’t need it this season.

Here are some must have shoes for your wardrobe.  As for Wingtips, if you don’t already have a pair consider getting some that have a little color in them for the warmer seasons. Leave the more casual shoes for your Khaki’s and casual Friday‘s.  Soft sided shoes are never a good look with a suit unless you are in a creative business.

And spring always means hats to me.  Straw says spring, time to start transitioning your heavier fabric hats into the closet and pull out or purchase new fresh spring and summer appropriate hats to spice up any wardrobe including a suit for the office!

Mad Hatters

When you think of a hat a lot of minds head (no pun intended) straight for the baseball cap or toboggan.  But a real Dandi hat has a brim that goes all the way around.  Fedora’s are a favorite of mine and hats of all kinds and shapes took to the runways for the 2011 F/W season.

Dior

Designers are doing their own take on many of the traditional millinery styles.  Lanvin has taken the panama hat and made it wider.  The Amish hat, a design that may have never thought of itself as runway material, is getting a lot of attention this season from designers including Dior Homme.  And there is, of course, the more stetson fedora which looks like a wonderful throwback to the 40’s.

The best thing about it all is that there are a growing variety of hats to choose from to pair with your jeans or to elevate the look of your suit or topcoat.  Wear a hat, yes because it’s cold, but sometimes you have to sacrifice for style.  So don’t be afraid to wear a hat just because it’s cool!
