I was twelve when the Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Gatsby came out. I can still remember how much that movie influenced my wardrobe, even then.

I bought my first pair of white bucks, my first seersucker suit; Yes I was styling at twelve. Between The American Gigolo and this movie my desires for elegant and dandi menswear was set in stone.

I recently rewatched the 1974 Gatsby to prepare for this years remake and I have to say, at twelve I did not truly get the impact of how sad the whole thing is (hope I’m not giving this away.)

The clothes are amazing, the parties to die for and the cars…(this movie also helped discover my latent car fedish.)

But all that said, a very sad tale indeed. Anyhoo, there is a new Gatsby in town, in 3-D no less, and though I haven’t seen it yet (hopefully this weekend), I will reserve judgment. The reviews haven’t been kind but my reviews will be more about the clothes than the acting in this one.

There have been several Great Gatsby’s in the movie world and I hear Fitzgerald was a dapper man. I thank him for the influence his novel had on men’s fashion. And unlike in my youth, where you had to go it on your own, there are many designers and fashion brands that have begun to put these looks, with modern lines, on the shelves. I look forward to seeing how this new movie inspires men’s fashion in the coming 2013/2014 seasons.

I first came to know him as the fabulous Sherlock Holmes, and fabulous he most certainly is, my goodness I have never seen such elegance in a crime drama and certainly never seen Sherlock Holmes depicted this way on American screens.

His name is Benedict Cumberbatch, an up-and-coming actor with already a lot of grand performances under his belt.

And boy can he strike a Dandy pose in any outfit he is put in.

He looks good in and out of a suit.

Coats and jackets love his frame. He really shows how a suit, coat or jacket should hang and frame the body.

But what I also love is that when he is not in something that demands you serve it, he can present relaxed and casual in such an elegant way.

And he even allows whimsy to come into play, you’ve always got to make the outfit your own!

And for all you Trekkies out there look for him in the upcoming Star Trek – Into Darkness playing the villain (villains always get to wear the best clothes, I hope they stay true to this.)

You want gorgeous and proper? Then look stage left and welcome Commonwealth Proper. Custom and ready to wear clothing made for the stylish Dandi.

And these fabulous designs are made in the U.S.

Look at this beautiful three piece suit and the gorgeous collar on the vest, styled beautifully with a sleek patterned hankie.

David Arquette is one of the owners (and who doesn’t love a movie star that also has a clothing line…) and I’ve certainly got to love menswear that fits our beloved Dandi Chaz Bono so well.

The place where I live, work, and love is coming alive! No, it’s not because of a bunch of creepy crawlies, it’s because of SXSW! For those of you who don’t know what the heck I’m talking about I’m talking about South by Southwest…
a Music, Film, Interactive and now Fashion mecca in the South where all of the cool people spend a part of their March (famous actors, musicians, leading names in technology…) to share and learn about all of the latest and greatest trends in technology, listen to the hottest bands in the world and watch some of the most amazing new films of 2012.
And now, the sound of real music to my ears, SX is also beginning to feature all aspects of the fashion world, from technology to style. You can learn how to use social media and all of the tools and technology to start your own fashion line or just become an even bigger slave to your (secret) obsession with it.

Did I mention fashion!?! Yes I did and on March 16th and 17th (of which my fashion stylist extraordinaire and sweetie Miramar is a part) Style X Personal Guided Shoppers will help you become an even more fabulous version of youreslf by styling you, giving you pointers on the latest trends, innovative designers and who to wear from the event.
Haven’t bought a ticket yet? There’s plenty of time and plenty of panels, fun, new friends to meet, and an amazing times to be had. Come on down, we know you’ll have a Dandi good time!

I love the Oscars, it’s in my blood, in fact I was born on Oscar night so many years ago when West Side Story (my favorite musical) swept the night. I wasn’t looking at gowns or tuxes back then but now style gazing is as much fun as betting on which of my favorite movies will win.
My congratulations to all of the winners particularly Octavia Spencer for her award winning performance in The Help.
Now onto the Dandy’s and their tuxes for the Oscars. Notched, peak, and shawl collars graced the red carpet and stage for this years event. So let’s begin!

Tom Cruise in this elegant custom designed Midnight Blue Giorgio Armani.

Chris Rock as dapper as ever.

My favorite for the night was the duel Tom combo, Tom Hanks in Tom Ford. Simply delicious!

The ever dapper, stylish and fashion icon Sean “Diddy” Combs in his own design, giving us his best Tyra Banks for the camera!

And last but certainly not least my favorite Hollywood couple. Brad Pitt is a Ford man and always looks elegant in his formal wear and then there is Angelina Jolie, an LGBT icon and now simply known as “the leg” for the 2012 Oscars. I say, if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

During the holiday seasons along with some of my favorite shows, like The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and The Christmas Story, I also find myself addicted to all things Turner Classic Movies, even if it is not necessarily holiday related.

On Monday they were featuring films with one of my favorite old school Dandi’s, Cary Grant, and I have to say that there is no designer that brings this dapper actor to mind faster than Luigi Bianchi Mantova.

Created by the Italian line Lubiam’s founded by Luigi Bianchi, LBM acts as a research brand with eye towards modernizing classics.

It’s sexy, stylish, sophisticated ease and elegance.

High-end casual wear for the impeccable Dandi.

Last night I went to go see the opening night of Mission: Impossible -Ghost Protocol, sadly there were only 10 of us in a theatre that holds 400, and perhaps even sadder the best part of the movie was the preview for Snow White and The Huntsman.

The graphics and fashion are IN-credible and the story looks rich with great actors and darkness in all the right ways, and oh did I mention how amazing Charlize Theron looks. My sweetie and I went to see Young Adult (which was sold out) last week and it is a delightfully quirky and often just down right sad betrayal of a person stuck in her high school glory days. And now I get to see her all fantastically Queenish and evil to boot.

I have yet to see the latest installment of Twilight but have plans to do so before the near year dawns, that said I was excited to see Kristen Stewart as Snow White (well maybe not after having a Vampire’s baby -lol) and

Chris Hemsworth. I love fairy tales and I love them done in Dolby sound. Can’t wait to see this movie.

Oh Tom Ford, how much I do love thee? I’m not sure if I have a huge gay crush or just want to come back as him next life. I saw the OWN network mini-docu Visionaries on him last week and I can’t stop watching it.

He is a perfectionist genius with so much personal style that he just makes me squeal with delight (yes I said squeal)!

Tom got his big break when he went to work for Gucci and he has had my heart ever sense. I was thrilled when he went on to do his own line though his menswear line has been a little hit and miss. Not in the design aspect at all but in the actual designing! As far as I can tell he did not do a collection for 2012 for his menswear line. But there are always his accessory’s. Eye glasses being a very consistent and wonderful part of his collections.

Then there is of course the movie. I actually liked A Single Man. I thought he did a wonderful job bringing the book to life and certainly far exceeded what most people thought he could do. I would like to see him direct more films, however, if it is between movies and his genius talent as designer and style provocateur then I will have to cast my vote to fashion.

What!?! Not these Avengers? I’m just pulling your leg, I knew that already. But I will use any ole excuse to put up a picture of my absolute favorite kick-butt, martial arts (though truly more dance than fighting), hot Emma Peelfrom my favorite show as a four year old. That’s right I was four when I first fell in love with Emma and I still hold the torch.
Okay, now onto the movie that has been receiving mounds of press lately for just a little ole trailer. (But wouldn’t it be great if her character had a part of the new movie!?!)

Hollywood has come up with a multi-packed product in this new venture. Very much like those bags of chips you get in the grocery store of all of your favorite fattening delights. The Avengers was the most downloaded iTunes trailer in the history’s site. This is a very good sign for Marvel Studio’s.
The ensemble film opens May 4th (why so early!?!) It is stuffed with a lot of masked superhero’s including Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson.
I love fantasy superhero movies and though I just read an article recently about people who have actually taken to the streets in spandex suits to fight crime (I don’t highly advise it, the injury rate is high) I too have fantasized about being one myself. Certainly the whole Marvel Comics could use more women and people of color, that’s for sure. It’s too bad my all time favorite caped crusader is not a part of this. I know, I know, comic enthusiasts around the globe just rolled their eyes at me for saying this, but I don’t care, this Avenger crowd needs a crazy bat with cool accessories (it‘s always about the accessories!)
